Future Speaker John Boehner gets choked up in victory speech (Video)

Last night much of America got its first glimpse at the man who is likely the next Speaker of the House.  Before now, only those who keep up with politics knew about House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH).  In the coming months, nearly every American will come to know "Speaker Boehner" who will likely become the second most powerful person in the country.  In his victory speech last night, Boehner clearly became overwhelmed by the emotion of the moment and began crying when talking about his rise to the "American dream."
As Speaker Boehner will now become the de facto face of the Republican Party the way Speaker Gingrich took on the role of Republican spokesperson in 1995.  In 1995 Gingrich took a hard stance against compromising with then-President Clinton, and most analysts believe that backfired on Republicans as Americans came to reject their obstructionism.  In his victor speech, Boehner hardly sent out a message of compromise, essentially saying that the President had to agree with Republican principles in order for any legislation to be passed.
At the same time, Boehner will have some tough challenges as Speaker.  Many of the people who handed the Tea Party their victories, including the Tea Party, expect results.  In the same way that President Obama suffered from unrealistic expectation from his base, Speaker Boehner may be faced with a backlash when he is not able to produce much of what Republicans promised in their "Pledge to America."  Even if Boehner is able to unify Republicans behind various controversial measures like repealing health care reform, he would still be unable to overcome a presidential veto that would keep any legislation from becoming law.  In his speech Boehner seemed to preview this problem, putting the onus on President Obama to come up with solutions.  It has yet to be seen if that argument will go over well with the people who voted for Republicans.
